Why Meyer Family Law?
Jill Meyer - Principal Attorney
The philosophy at Meyer Family Law is to put clients first. This means being honest and upfront at all times, as well as providing clear expectations and direction to clients when they need it most. When you choose Meyer Family Law, you will get the care and attention that you deserve.
When you hire a family law attorney, you are going through a major life transition. You need an advocate that will listen to you, make sure your story is understood and told, but you also need someone that will help you contain the conflict and costs.
My goal is to resolve each client's case as quickly and efficiently as possible. I like to find creative solutions to accomplish this. I have been extremely successful at resolving contested issues without the need for court intervention. This results in keeping your costs down. If it becomes clear that settlement is not an option, I have the passion, dedication and experience to aggressively represent your position in the courtroom.
I have clients that have already reached an agreement and simply need it drafted into the divorce decree. I have clients that are dealing with an ex with substance abuse and addiction, mental health issues, and financial control. Every client's case is different. My approach is to know my clients, the situation they are in, and tailor my legal strategy to their case to accomplish their goals.
There are many facets of family law. I have extensive experience representing clients dealing with divorces (simple divorces to multi-day trials), custody disputes, child support issues, division of marital and non-marital assets, dividing a family business, modifications of parenting time, domestic abuse / orders for protection, deaf client experience, even step-parent adoptions and grandparent rights. No matter the situation you are in, I am here to be your advocate.
A bit about myself - I am extremely proud to have been nominated by other family law attorneys to be a Super Lawyer Rising Star. This is an honor received by only 2.5% of attorneys across the state. I was also elected by other attorneys to serve as the Chair of the Family Section of the MN State Bar Association. I'm an involved member of the twin cities family law community. This makes a difference. I know a lot of my fellow attorneys (and opposing counsel) as people. Together we are able to resolve your case faster.
I was born and raised in Brookings, South Dakota. I received my law degree from Creighton School of Law in Omaha, Nebraska. I was a law clerk for the Magistrate Thomas D. Thalken at the United States District Court of Nebraska. I currently live in the Twin Cities with my husband and two (2) children and our dog Baxter.
